I want to convert my 58' from the generator to an alternator. Can someone tell me what alternator will fit the original bracket? If none are a bolt on replacement, what bracket should I look for. I plan on adding A/C and possibly electric windows later on so it needs to be one of the larger output models. Any advice would be appreciated.
Unless you just like the work, the original generator will do just fine.
Yes and No.
I'm changing my '62 Corvair to an alternator for several reasons. One is to get a more rapid charge on the battery due to the short hops I normally take in it. Another reason is to get rid of the mechanical contacts that can stick on a regulator. Have you ever boiled a battery dry? Also, I think the alternator is half the weight of the generator.
