Wow! What a great resource thread here!

Yea....I know it was started way back in 2006, but this is the first time I have seen it and it's still very much applicable.

Default C2 Muncie Shifter gap tolerance bracket assembly.

I’m in the process of refurbishing my shift lever and bracket assembly.
After putting all the levers and reverse interlock back into the bracket (cage), I’m curious if there is an optimal tolerance for the gap left over after it’s assembled. I ask, because I haven’t any success on the web. Plenty for Hurst, but almost nothing for the stock unit. Maybe there isn’t a defined tolerance, but any advice is greatly appreciated.

Default C1 motors

I’m new to all this but I’m 70 so bear with me. I just bought my first C1. A 58. Been checking number to see what I have. To start I believe this is an original car 283 single four barrel but it gets weird from here. Casting numbers fit, its a single four barrel set up but the engine number ends in CU. That being the case this is a 270hp car. If that’s the case it should have dual four barrels. Everything about this screams original, Spyder cracks in the lacquer paint, rock hard rubber in the motoer mounts etc. is it possible that this car came out of the womb with just one carb? I have driven the car an at first impression this is not a 230 hp car.

Welcome to the forum .
My first Corvette was a 270 HP 60 with both tops and a 4 speed.
It is quite possible that the 2/4's were removed by a previous owner .
You can check the dist. , as it should be a dual point centrical .Also look at the redline on the Tachometer and it will be in around 6000 plus range
Also you can go to the C-1/ C-2 forum and find all the help you need ,
All the best Tom

Default 1958 help

So I bought my first C1 at age 70, a 58 both tops that I thought was a base 230 hp w/4 speed single 4 barrel.
having just got the car I started looking at some numbers. The engine cast number is period correct and year correct I believe
3737789. then I got to looking at engine number and find it ends in CU FII7CU. from my research this is a 270 hp with dual 4s?
it was suggested that I look at tach and dist. Tach is 5000 redline witch would imply 230 HP distri. Is dual point that would imply 270hp.
so my thought is I have a replacement period correct 270 HP that at the time of replacement had a single 4barrel intake.
let me know your thoughts

Does the engine idle smoothly ?
The 270 HP engines have the Duntov solid lifter cam . you should ask the moderators to move this thread to the C- 1/2 forum.
You will get a lot more input and interest . Also fill out your profile so people know where you are . You might have some forum members close to you that can give you hands on help .
