Just as a point of comparison perhaps, this is a 1111493 (8 L 18) distributor for a 1969 350cid/350hp.

Knight,
But that is SB to SB. I was just trying to reinforce what John said: the SB differs little if at all to 1974. The issue is a difference with the BB. I hope Tom responds.

I located the pics... email me at LakeMachine@Hotmail.com and I'll send them. I'm not a member of any on-line photo board. If you want to post them.. feel free.

I have 3 pertinent pics...

#1 showing differences in driven gears... but one could be an aftermarket gear so it means nothing for this discussion.

#2 showing differences in oil holes

#3 showing differences in the top casting (visible above the manifold)

Original castings over the years might have had holes and ridges in different locations, but the 1983 Chevrolet parts book that I have has the bare distributor housing listed as part number 1851158, and fitting 1962-1974 all Corvettes, all engines, BB & SB.

I have an original 1111069 tach drive distributor if your interested (correct for a 327/365hp), I would have to check the date though....If you compare a reproduction tag to an original tag you will see a difference in the size of the part number.

A true mid-year BB distributor has a bridge covering part of the cast in groove just above the main drive gear...

This is what I remember but it could have been on pass car aluminum bodied distributors and not the tach drive.

Somebody post Tom's pictures.

And.... if you buy one from a vendor for a BB, make sure you wirewheel the paint off the bridge to make sure it is not just brazed to make it a "look-alike".

I have seen this many times.

The same finished Delco cast iron distributor housing (P/N 1851158) was used for all '63-'74 carbureted Corvette SB and BB tach-drive distributors; there were minor drawing changes in the part over the years, but none were related to distributor usage.

I believe you are mistaken...65-67 BB motors (Corvette & pass car) used a distributor housing with a bridge covering part of the lower cast in groove.

As I mentioned, there were minor drawing changes in the housing over the 15 years it was used, but none were functionally significant; the Delco distributor drawings show common SB/BB usage of that housing from '65-'74, and the P&A30B shows that housing as used for all non-F.I. Corvettes from '62-'74. Apparently the "bridge" wasn't significant enough to issue a new finished housing part number with that feature specifically for the BB application.

The housing drawing shows a minor dimensional revision to the oil annulus in 1967, and the position of the upper and lower oil holes was rotated 150* in 1971; those are about the only changes ever made to the housing.

The pic(s) with the brazed bridge also have the lower oil hole brazed shut. I have no clue what this was about. The oil holes on that distributor were rotated as described above. The right hand (gray)distributior is the correct original out of my own 66 327 (except for the color and the stainless roller bearing cross-shaft coupler). I have the tag for that one.

The other one was marketed as a 67 BB unit.

The difference in gears may be just aftermarket error.
