I know that a C2 is worth what somebody will pay. But what is the best way to get an honest value for my car. My intention is to get colector insurance on it. Any help would be appriciated!
Post pic of your car on here and discribe it as best you can (everything) condition, paint, interior, hit or not, frame, etc. There are guys in here that can help you figure out what your car should be insured for. Or you and the insurance Co agree on a price that it would take to replace it ( FULL REPLACEMENT COST) if something ever happened to it.
The good new is the insurance shouldn't be too outrageous depending on your driving record. Mine is through American Collector based on $50,000 replacement and cost less than $400 per year.
Thanks for the web sites I looked and came up with numbers from 35k to about 75k. My car is a hard top vert with some alteration. It is the right color red, has the right dash-tach was converted to electronic, clock works but is quartz, correct M-21 4 speed (original) 72k on chasis but I have a built 350 engine. 427 is long gone . car runs and drives frame and cage straight and rust free. brakes are new including e-brake. some custom fiberglass was done and the car has electronic ignition and a 90 amp alternator. I was thinking about 40-50k what do you think?
Oldschool, I hate to burst your bubble but by your car having a Mako Shark front end that just dropped the value or you car a lot unless you find the right person who is looking for that type of modification. It will take about $4K to $5K to put it back original. It will take new front end, head light buckets and motors, bumpers and brackets, then you will need to repaint the whole car to match it up, the BB hood is not that big of a deal. Hope you can get it insured for what you are wanting it insured for. I guess is $25 to $28 BUT that is my opinion and I am sure that you will get others with different opinions.
I had a 66 Vert like that at one time I payed $17,000.00 for and it took me about 6 months to put it back original and a lot of BLING BLING $$$$. I am not downing your car please don't think that it is very nice looking it is just not my cup of tea. I like cars with little or no modification to the bodies, others like the modifications.
Collector car insurance is based on an "agreed value" and they will pay what they agree the value to be. Check with Grundy and Hagerty, they have far less restrictions than most other companies.
I thought some insurance companies required certified apprasials ? My local State Farm agent just took some picture's. I think I have agreed value on mine.

When I signed up with Haggerty about 2 years ago, they wanted an appraisal if I wanted to insure my car for more than $50k.

That's the way State Farm works. The agent takes some pictures, you tell them what it's worth and then pay the premium for that amount. They have some ballpark figures to work with to make sure the amount isn't unreasonable. My agent calls every few years to tell me to raise the amount. I'm sure he raises his cut each time too.
I insured my coupe with Hagerty for $70k when I bought it in 2004. Last year I bumped it to $85k. Both times they asked for a few pictures (inside, outside & engine) and never required an appraisal. I know it's insured for more than it's worth; I want to make sure if something happens to it I can replace it.

Hagerty has guideline figures they work with and as long as the underwriter agrees with what you have asked for your car is insured for that "stated amount". If the value exceeds their guidelines they will ask for a qualified appraisal.
They agents do not make "big bucks" on auto insurance. If fact auto policies pay the lowest commissions and have the most service work. Collector car insurance is based on very low miles, locked in an enclosed garage and drivers with clear records. I have many collector car policies in my agency and have had a very low claim history. The cars and drivers must fit what they are looking for and it they do, the premiums are very reasonable.
67-427ci,
The insured value on your car is well within the guidelines with Hagerty.
I have mine insured for $80,000 and sent them the link to the history of the car. The underwriters reviewed this information and agreed to insure it for the $80k.
My 65 fuelie is also insured with hagerty at 80K and they just needed pictures...in fact I raised the insurance from 55k to 80K after a recent restoration with just a phone call and one picture...all is good with hagerty by me
