Problem starting - Click...no start...
I did note however that in your particular situation you probably need a lot of diagnostic equipment. Anyone who has used his equipment to "bail himself out, literallly 100's of times" should probably be reviewing his automotive and yard equipment servicing process. You're having way too much trouble. Sounds like either faulty parts, inept technician or both.
I just simply wondered if the guy got his car started. That's all. I don't have any idea why you read more into it than that.
Now I know why my Ford stock is worth about a 1/3 of what it once was. Thanks
Maybe you should reread what you posted right after my 1st post here to this thread. I read through all the posts on this thread prior to it. If it wasn't me you were trying to make seem like a foolish person who was it? Maybe you should reread your latest post here. I guess you weren't refering to me here either. You are a unbelievable person let alone a Corvette Forum member MikeM! Hope I never meet up with you.
So, there is not much to tell. Thanks to the good folks who replied to my query, I got it fixed. I pulled the old battery, went down and got a new one, put it in and fired it up. Fixed! How I wish everything were that easy. What threw me off and led me down the path of a potential starter or solenoid problem were the symptoms I mentioned, turn the key...single click and nothing…do it again and start, all very reminiscent of a solenoid’s actions when overheated. Only in my case, the car had been sitting all night. Also, whenever I’ve had a dead battery in the past, it would just click once and then nothing. What was odd…for me….was the repeated clicking….and why did the clock go backwards?
So once again, it has been fixed and again, I am sorry for popping up for the question and appearing not to pop back to hand out the thank you’s. They are richly deserved and hopefully, accepted.

The car sat for a while and the battery went dead. It was charged and ran fine. Then about a week later, it was dead again. At that time, it dawned on me to pop the tops and the water was drained out of one of cells. I filled it and drove the car for 3 weeks before the problem occurred. I did notice during this time that my Amp meter was always charging, sometimes pegging out. I never had that before. It is not doing that now.

I must of posted at the same time as you were doing a back up post to your last post. Reading now that you found a dry cell without battery acid when taking the caps off right there you know you had a dead cell making for a junk battery. Adding water would of made no difference in this case. Its good that you got a new battery. Make sure your regulator is charging properly so that it doesn't boil out the acid in your new battery.
