Default Got a problem, need help

I have a new 62 fuel tank that I am installing a Tanks electric fuel pump set up in. There is only one place with a large enough flat space on top to drill and install the top for the fuel pump plate.
At the same time I have to install a new fuel sending unit which I recieved today from Corvette central
While waiting for my fuel sending unit to arrive I cut the hole in the top of the tank and fitted my new fuel pump. Today after my new fuel sending unit arrived I proceeded to install it in my tank and discovered that the end of the float is going to be under my fuel pump tray (the tray that bolts on to prevent running the pump dry, like a small reservoir).
Now I have several choices or maybe some of you have a better idea.
1. I can cut the baffle out of the tank on the passenger side, then cut the arm off of the sending unit, reverse it and weld it back making it swing to the passenger side.
2 I can leave the tray off the fuel pump and make sure NEVER to run it low in fuel. My tank has a baffle inside both ends of the tank, it this common or something new?
3 I will wait until I get some other ideas from some of you who can give me a better idea or someone who has had this situtation before.
This is just part of the fun of doing things different than the cars of yesterday were designed to do.
Thanks,
Wade
