odd 63 electrical ?

I'm replacing the ignition harness on my 1963 conv and I'm comparing the old harness to the new harness. Everything looks good except the end of the harness plugs into a metal 4 prong box that bolts right next to the radiator shroud and the end plugs look similar but slightly different. I was just wondering what is this electrical thingamabob and what does it do? Does anyone sell a replacement for it? It's bolted right next to the radiator shroud on the passanger side.

I'm re-wiring my 63 too. Finding many differences, primarily because my car isn't original. The voltage regulator is very easy to replace and should be available at any parts store for under $20. Good Luck!

I use solid state electronic regulators. They are available at local auto stores fairly cheap and quite dependable. I currently have a TransPo high performance version in my car holding down a 135amp alternator, but I don't think it's necessary for alts below 100amps.

magicv8 Did you have to do any special wiring for that? Sorry I'm not much of an electrician if you have any more info about that I would greatly appreciate it.

If you have the correct GM corvette harness & connectors it should be just plug and play

I understand but he said he used a more modern solid state version and my question is is that plug and play.

The only difference is INTERNAL. The electrical connectors are the same. The newer version will operate better than the old.

The solid-state Wells VR715 (AutoZone) is a direct replacement for about $15.00 or less, and it'll accept the original Delco-Remy cover if you want it to "look" original.

I feel better now. Don't want to ruin a new wiring harness.

I'll go out and get one this weekend to avoid trying to restore and replate the original.
