Big Block Cams
Are any of you running comp cams XE274H or XE284H in your big block? I am replacing the cam in my big block which is going to be an almost daily driver, and these are the two I am considering. I was looking for something close to a Hydraulic version of the 435 horse cam, and those are what I came up with. Looks like they both are a mix of the 375 horse/396 cam, and the 435horse/ 427cam from that era. I have a 390horse A.C. car, but the engine is a 1968 4-bolt 425 horse CE motor. 3.36 gears and an M21.
Are there any more cams you are in love with? I know this topic has been posted before, but I can't find anything on the archive searches.
Thanks,
Matt

Re: Big Block Cams (Birdball)
Matt, because their cubes usually give more low end torque than their tires can handle anyway, I'm a big fan of big cams in big blocks. However, you mentioned "almost daily driver" so I suspect that you'd be happier with the smaller of the two, especially with ac, 3:36's, and M21. BTW, the 435/427, 425/427, and the 375-425 396's used the same cam. Exceptions were the `65 Chevelle version with hydrolic lifters and `67 - later cams didn't have an oil feed groove on the rear journal that was needed on prior years.

Just my 2 cents.........But the XE268 would be the way to go with the 336 gears & would still pull strong to 6000 with GOBS of low end tourque...........
