[REPRINT] Our Corvette Heritage #5: 1967-435 Roadster vs Shelby GT500
OUR CORVETTE HERITAGE:
I know you'll agree that keeping our Corvette heritage alive is important to the hobby. As new owners come on board, I'll bet there's a lot about Corvettes that they don't know.
The 'OUR CORVETTE HERITAGE' series of posts is an attempt to bring us all up to speed or remind us about the history and development of our favourite car.

This thread contains an interesting road test comparison between two completely stock cars:
1967 Corvette Roadster, 427-435hp, 3x2bbl, 4-speed, 3.55:1, 7.75 x 15" rayon tires
1967 Shelby GT500, 428-355hp, 2x4bbl, 4-speed, 3.50:1, E70 x 15" low-profile Speedway 350 Goodyear tires
More than aything else, I'd like to draw your attention to the 13.8 @ 104mph 1/4 mile times on the 435......with amazingly horrible tires. Pull out a ruler, measure 6 inches, and imagine that you're driving this 435 and that's all the rubber you have on the ground...and they're not even radials.
What was it like on these tires? Well, I can tell you that on the day I got mine, I destroyed the rear ones.....just couldn't stop playing!!! :smash:  Oh to be 20 again!
No more :bs ....here it is!

My parents bought a 1969 GT500 brand new when I was a kid. What a "badass" car that was. I would kill to have it back. They traded it in on a, get this, Oldsmobile Delta 88 convertible, I was sick :U
I know it's really a modded Mustang but I love Shelby's just the same.

Re: [REPRINT] Our Corvette Heritage #5: 1967-435 Roadster vs Shelby GT500 (1996Z15)
My father had a 65 corvette, then a 67 GT500, then a 69 1/2 T/A, then when I got my license a 70 challenger 383 magnum which I blew up when he was out of town (conned mom into letting me take it to pick up little borthers from sunday school...threw a rod & never made it. ) It only had 6,000 miles on it. He sold it and never bought muscle cars again. (and I never got to drive his cars again!) :(
