Default Clock Restoration

The clock in my 66 Coupe is not working. I took it out Today and I am wondering where I can send it to be restored. Please let me know your experiences. Thanks!

Zip and Ecklers do it. There are other sources, too. Mine is at Zip right now for a quartz conversion and cosmetic resto. I expect it back in about 2 weeks. I'll let you know how they did on it.

You can get a quartz conversion kit and do it your self for about $50.00 and 1 hours work. Mine works great!

I think the best place to send it would be to Corvette Clocks by Roger. Roger Reed does a great job, he did all the gauges and clock on my 63 coupe www.corvettecolcks.com

As stated you can do a Quartz conversion. It's a straight forward change. I changed over and when I had the clock restored I went back to the original movement.

But if the lens needs to be changed, the face needs paint and the bezel is scratched send it out. Shop around, most places have a fixed price for a clock.

Try Joe Ray at http://joerayparts.com/ he does great work at a fair price.

Can the quartz conversion be done if the set-stem is not functioning now. My stem is missing whatever goes on the inside end (a gear maybe?) and can be pulled out of the clock. Does the quartz unit do away with the need of the original set-stem or would I have the same problem I have now? By the way, my clock does work but disconnecting the battery to set the time sucks!! Thanks for any info.

I had my clock done this spring by Clocks by Roger. I took about four weeks to get it back. I got it back on a Friday and installed it that night. The next day while out crusin the clock fell apart (the front and back sections separated). I removed it, contacted them and sent it back. Because it fell apart the day after I received it, I asked them to fix and return ASAP, reimburse me for the cost to ship the clock back to them, and not to be charged the return shipping. I got the clock back about a week later, they did not charge me for shipping it back to me, but they would only reimburse me for a portion of the cost to ship it back to them (reimbursed me approx. 67%).

Let me know if I can help. I can restore these. Turn-around time about 5 days once I get it + shipping time back to you. I agree, quartz conversion is the way to go. Check my profile for my website and info.

either way, leaving it original or converting to quartz, you need to have a working set stem and pinion gear. I'd suggest replacing both. The pinion gear is pressed on internally, and if you don't replace the stem as well, whatever made it come of in the first place may happen again.

There is a small gear on the stem, but I'm guessing that it's the mating gear your having trouble with. (I forget how the stem gear is attached to the stem, but I do suppose it could have come loose). My conversion did give me a problem with the new mating gear because of dimemsional differences.

It was an easy fix though. I purchased a couple of small nylon washers and filed one down until it took up the space behind the clock face with only .003"-.005" clearance. The stem gear engages every time now, perfectly.

Default Tick Tock Clock.

In 04 I packed up my inoperative clock and sent it to " The Clockworks"
in Eagle River WI .. Jerry Magayne installed a new Borg Movement ,New lens , painted the black bezel Total with S/H $116.95 looked like new
It keeps good time and unlike the Quartz movement does tick tock like original [ quartz has continuous sweep second hand unlike stock if you are big on that sort of thing] phone is 715-479-5759

If you use Roger, have him restore your clock. I did a show trade. When I got home and unwrapped it, I found that the bezel was a piece of crap compared to the newer one on clock I had traded in.
