Default Ignition Shield Cover Question

I need to re-glue the inside plastic insert (of the ignition cover) back to the ignition cover. The NCRS says that it is suppose to be a yellow glue. Does anyone know what glue will bond to the chrome and dry yellow?

Sounds like 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive, a.k.a. "Gorilla Snot".

Yea I was thinking something down those lines but I'm not sure that will bond the plastic to the chrome. I also tried contact cement on an old cover I had and that didn't work at all.

I thought that the plastic insulator was held on by two nylon clips???

Try using some rubber cement on a test piece of paper or plastic. Methinks it dries yellow. It seems to me that the original epoxy when we were kids was yellow as well...

From what I know, the plastic insulator is held to the ignition cover with a yellowish glue. When our car was showed NCRS they pointed out that out to me.

Not sure of the glue type, but I will tell you when I was judging with a Master, it better be put on with a 1 1/2 inch brush... He dinged alot of cars for that..

Just to confirm. I don't know what year your car is but mine is a 66. Maybe that is the difference in ignition covers?

Here is the original ignition cover that came off a friends 66 5 Star Bowtie Coupe. I need a glue that dries like that.

A '66 (small-block) should have two plastic rivets retaining the insulator inside the upper cover; same part was used in '66-'67.

Sorry guys. I didn't even think to state whether it was a Big Block or Small Block. My car is an L-72. I'll try the 3M adhesive.

Thanks,

-Dave
