👍 That's pretty innovative, especially when we might not have had another sleeve. Thanks, Mike
I tried to Loctite method and the noise is gone. But there is a small vibration. I will order a new crush sleeve, seal, and pinion nuts and try again thanks for the great confirmation.

Small vibration may be something else. Did you mark the driveshaft before removal? If not try rotating it 180 degrees.

You're going to get into a deep hole trying to do a sleeve in the car. First the old most likely will not slide out past the outer race, the new same as well. You will have to pull the diff.
Now if you have an original 64 diff, the crush sleeve is not the same as the 65-79, that one may slide past the outer race. However original 63-4 differentials were NOT good. They are weak, the posi's broke, the pinion gear snapped in 1/2, and the posi parts are obsolete. Many have been changed out by now but I still see them come in.
If you plan on a sleeve I strongly advise you to remove the diff for bench repair. You can tell by looking at the housing if it's a 64 or later by looking at the front bracket hole in the diff. If it's tapped it's a 63-4, if it's a through hole, like the one behind it, then it's a 65-79. 64 covers have a steel vent and machine thread plug vs the plastic vent and 3/4 npt plug the 65-79's use.
Trying to figure out what is in my vet. Here is what is stamped “AWW 291 E2” and casting number is “2898143” or “2899148” the 8s 9s and 3s look a lot alike. The rear end was changed in my car before I got it. I think the AW = HD 308, W = Warren Mich, I don’t know the rest, can anybody help me with this?
