Windshield ding..... Today
Well, I'm a victim today. Went less than a mile in the 64 and a truck pitched a stone and sure enough damn, winshield got a ding. My winshield is original dated and tinted......
Take it to any reputable glass place and they can repair it.
Yup, if it's just ding, more than likely it can be repaired very easily and will be practically impossible to see. Does depend where the ding is though.
I feel your pain. Today I opened the door of my 07 into a landscaping pole that was sticking up out of the grass I parked next to. 2500 miles and 2 nice scratches on the hard-to-fix monterey red paint.
Look at it this way - many classic cars have been damaged sitting in garages by fire, kids bicycles, etc. At least you were using your car when it happened.
Find a windshield dealer that does the "Novis" fix --do it before it spreads and it will look almost like new--I have had it done on my truck a couple times insurance pays 100% too All but dissapears--Glenn

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions and kind words..... almost puked in the garage when I got home, but oh well, as Jeff said, at least I was driving it when it happened.
Found a guy here locally who will look at it and give me a guarenteed estimate to fix "like new" ...... we'll see.
Just joking, I feel your pain. I had a few of these recently fixed on my company car, I assume that you have a small star type ding in the windshield? The glass company will use vacuum suction to extract all of the air and then fill the ding with some resin to seal the impact area. While this will minimize the size of the ding (and prevent it from getting bigger), it will not make it 100% invisible. Expect a small chip to remain, about the size of a pencil point.
Rich - sorry to hear that - I picked up a nice chip in my [original] windshield this year too (the price of driving it, I guess) and I would like to hear how your repair efforts work out, as I'll be following you.
Get a repair kit made by Pennzoil at your local Wal Mart. Take your time, and the repair will be invisable. I've used the Pennzoil kit on several good size rock chips. They all came out great, can't find the chips any more.
Get the chip fixed and drive on.
It wont be your last chip if its a driver. Nothing sucks more than getting a new windshield because of a chip and then one week later you get another rock chip.
Down here in Texas rock chips are unavoidable if your car leaves the garage.
