i put on my new side pipes today. what a sound...
anyway, the back bolt that holds on the pipe. the AIM book looked to say that it should be torqued to 20 ft/#. i turned the wrench until the rubber isolators were bent in pretty good but did not hit the 20ft/#. have i got the wrong torque setting or should i just keep going until i hit 20ft/#?

Do you have the retainer?
AIM - N14/A2 part #10.
The washer (#8) should bottom out on the retainer and let you get your torque without deforming the cushions too much.
You could also leave the retainer off, just use the rubber washer and use a lock washer. This will isolate the exhaust pipe from hard mounting to the frame, which in turn will reduce the resonance inside a little. My experience anyway.
thanks for the info. i backed the nuts off and put on lock nuts. i did not run them up too tight and also pulled out the retainer. it certainly helped with the vibration in the car. much better.
