Hi all! I am finding a small pool of coolant (2-3" diam.) in the drip pan on the floor under my car (65 coupe)
after it sits in the garage between drivings (usually get it out about twice per week, short run mid-week longer
weekend playtime). The coolant pools in the area just below the front of the oil pan. I've been under the car
to look around but can't see anything obvious. Yesterday I didn't notice drops under the car until it had been
sitting in the driveway for an hour or two. The engine is a 327/300 (66 blk I'm told). Car has factory air, PS,
PB and Powerglide trans. Can ya'll give me some leads to check? I also get a little oil in the drip pan as well.
Will be most appreciative of any help you might send my way! Great having you out there!
IMO it sounds like either the waterpump is loose or starting to go. Check the bolts that hold the water pump on and ensure they're tight. Not sure on how to tell if the pump is starting to go other than a leak. Maybe there could be excessive play on the fan would be an indicator.
If it's not an obvious leak at a lower radiator hose or a heater hose leaking and running down the block ,I'd look at the weep hole at the bottom of the water pump snout at 6 o'clock. You'll need an inspection mirror to chk this out and If it's leaking you'll see silicate buildup and dampness at this hole. If thats the problem you'll need a new pump. You also have 2 freeze plugs at the front of the block that could be leaking also but thats not likely. Good luck
