Yes the fault is in the Latin usage. You should have used "exempli gratia" instead of "id est" but "mea culpa" will work now.

I am having cooling issues with my recently built 63 convertible. Seems to have the original radiator. Is it crucial to have an aluminum replacement?

This should address that question for you. This link discusses the merits and includes data indicating a brass replacement radiator has 30% less BTU rating from a factory aluminum radiator.
