Default Help Picking out headers

I've got a '66 327 - 4 speed with power steering and brakes.

Looking for a good set of coated headers that I can install without hassle. I've heard nightmares about ordering tubes that have to be bent or pounded to fit around steering boxes, alternators, etc.

Something that I can order from Jegs or Summit or direct from the manufacturer that will slip right in.

Model numbers and manufacters... What do you guys have?

Mine are "Jet-Hot Hooker Competition Plus", from Jet-Hot. They are sterling ceramic finish, but are not nearly as bright as I thought they would be.

The head mount flange is too thin I think, and was bowed at the ends. I ran it for an hour then let it cool down, and I re-torqued it. I did this 3 times. I think I got the leaks eliminated. If I did it again I would go with a header that had a 3/8" flange.

They fit very well (perfect I'd say), and look good. Good price and, They sound great!
All said and done...I'd probably pop for the doug thorly's next time.

I went with Dynomax ceramic coated and they fit perfectly and still look good two years later. Good price thru Summit.

I'd go with the Hedman Elites followed by the Hooker's.

Another vote for Doug's Headers....I've had both the 1 5/8 and 1 3/4 setups on my small block vette. They are built well and fit well. I have also tried the Hooker Super comps....not as impressed...they fit okay but where thinner especially at the flanges and I had some issues with the collector flanges rapping the floor when the motor torqued.

see here for some pics of the doug's vs the hookers

So, with the Doug's, do you have any problems bottoming-out or dragging the tubes or flanges? Thanks,

I'm in the same position with replacing my old Hookers. Info would be appreciated. I've been planning on the Sterling Jet Hot coated Hooker Competition. Found Doug's on Summit.

What are our cars? Mine is a 327 ...

Cylinder Head Port Shape
Oval
or SAP

Anyone remember what part number they ordered with these? Any problem with clearance on the steering stabilizer? My old man took the original off due to interference with the headers ...

Bryan

blueray,

I believe the part # for Hooker Super Comp ceramic coated are 2134-1.

These are not coated by Jet Hot. Contact Jet Hot for Super Comps with their coating. They give a discount to forum members.

Good Luck,

Larry

Thanks - I was actually looking for the part # for Dougs. I find it interesting Hookers can be bought cheaper from Jet Hot than from Summit ...

Thoughts comparing the two (Hooker vs. Dougs?) quite a price difference ... are they worth it?

I'm on Summit's website looking at Doug's headers. They show two different applications for a 66 Corvette small block.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

and

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Part numbers are
DOU-D350

and

DOU-D334

price is the same. difference appears to be Cylinder Head Port Shape.

Any of y'all with Doug's headers remember what you have?

Thanks

Default Headers

Doug's Headers worked very well for me. The quality is very good. Very pleased with their fit and ceramic coating.
