Went for a cruise yesterday, and my speedo quit working. So I got up this morning and went out to disconnect the cable at the trans and put a drill on the cable to see if the speedo worked. Much to my surprise, the cable slid completely out of the housing from the transmission end. At first I thought GREAT,all I have to do is slide in a new cable. But then I thought, "did the cable break on its own,or maybe did the speedometer freeze up causing the cable to snap?" Can this happen? Would you guys go ahead and gamble and try putting in a new cable first,or go a head and pull the cluster AGAIN, and replace the speedo and the cable? Also, there might be enough cable sticking out of the back of the speedometer to where I might be able to grab it and turn it. If it turns does this mean speedo is alright. I'll do anything to avoid pulling that cluster again.

It is very rare for the head to freeze up and wring the cable. I would just pull the cable housing loose and replace the inner cable.
