Hello members
As you may have read my previous post I had a problem with my Gas tank leaking Well thanks to Speed 55 I now have a brand new Gas tank, I was detailing the undercarriage Being as the tank was out and I noticed that my differential cover numbers were upside down they read 3030383MG (GM 3830303) ON TOP BOTTOM WAS 3MG is the cover on backwards? Can anyone tell me the gear ratio? Also on the driver side of the pumkin ther are some numbers but not legible because of the left side rear strud housing can't see behind it

Any Help (John Z) would help
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone

The cover can not be installed backwards (think of a mirror). Upside down? Maybe, but not backwards.

The numbers for what ratio are on the bottom (where you would put the floor jack).

Bill

The ratio code should be stamped into the bottom edge of the unit along with the date. Here's a shot from the 68 rear that was in my 65. Ratio code is in the box. A0 = 3.70 posi.

Here's a link to some info about codes for 1966 vettes:
http://www.corvettefever.com/images/...ion_codes.html

Hope this helps.

3830303 is the correct casting number for the rear cover from '63 to early '65, then it became 3871375 (there's no casting date); no, it's not possible to install the rear cover upside-down, or the diff housing would be upside-down after bolting the cover to the crossmember.

The numbers on the driver's side are the casting date for the diff housing. Look at the bottom flange of the diff housing, between the spring plate and the camber strut bracket for the stampings that show the ratio code and assembly date - you'll need to clean it first.
