Default carb rebuild

i was disassembleing my 850 holly to do a rebuild and I broke the plastic piece that is attatched to the front metering plate. It leads to the vent tube. These are not included in the holley kit I bought. Should I replace this piece or not worry about it. Wish I had some extra cash I,d buy a deamon.

Thanks Jeff

Is it a hollow rectangular piece, about 2" long? If it is, it used to be called a "whistle tube". It prevents fuel from getting forced out of the vent tube during hard acceleration. They should be available at any speed shop.
I would put it back in.

plaidside is right - the tube is called a "whistle," and it is not a "stock" piece in your Holley. It is an add-on fix for fuel sloshing up the vent tube and dumping down the venturies under extremely hard acceleration. If you're not drag racing the car with some sticky tires on it, you don't need the tube. If, however, you're pulling close to 1G on launch, you'll need it to keep the car from falling on its face due to fuel slosh up the tube. It's not needed for more "sane" street driving.

I broke about half of the tube off, so about an inch is still there. I do not drag race the car but I do like to turn it up now and then. The tires break loose so I don't think Im pulling any real G's. Also I was told I could put some .015 wire in the IFR to lean out the idle. Exactly were is the IFR.

If you still have a stub of the whistle left, it will still function to prevent fuel from entering the vent. If you can't find a replacement, don't worry about it - it will run fine.

On the wire-in-the-IFR technique, page Clem. He's the one with a bit of experience on tuning the idle circuit using the .015 wire. He can give you detailed info on this and also when to do it and when not to.
