Default Glovebox Switch - Am I missing something?

I found an original glove box light switch (I think) to replace the repro one in my '64, but am not sure if I have all that I need to install it.

On the repro switch that I have, the Wagner #1893 bulb twists in and snaps into position fine, but I cannot get the same bulb to do likewise on the original switch.

Questions:

1) Is this an original midyear switch?
2) Is the #1893 bulb correct for this switch?
3) Am I missing any parts to get this to work?

If someone has photos of the back side of one of these as it should be assembled, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks,
Todd

The funky metal clip in your picture that the wire should connected to, slips inside of the black plastic assembly. With it in place, the bulb will push into place, twist, and stay.

It looks like an original switch to me. The only part you are missing is a metal light shield that slips over the bulb. The idea was to block the light bulb from shining straight into the driver's eyes.

Here's mine installed, but with a non-factory wire coming out of the back so that I could disconnect my glove-box wiring any time I need to.

Jeff:

Thanks for the reply and the photo.

The clip shown in my photos is similar to the one crimped to the wire in the glove box, and slips into the switch body like it does on the repro switch, but the bulb still will not twist in and engage as it does on the repro switch. That's why I wondered if there was some other part that fits into the back of the switch body that retains the bulb on an original switch as opposed to the repros.

BTW, I do have a repro light hood, but did not photograph it with the switch.

Thanks again,
Todd

Jeff is spot on! Here is some info I put together the other day when helping a fellow Forum member. I knew I had seen the info about positioning the shield somewhere. This is from the AIM for my 65.
The switch is a pretty simple affair. I think getting a good ground to the glove box frame is important.

Like Jeff, I also have a quick connect in the bk/or wire to make removing the GB easier.

Hope these help.

Default We have light!

Thanks guys! We now have light!

I had been trying to set this up on the bench using the clip that was in the photo, but it is a reproduction clip that had come with my repro switch. I did not use this clip when I installed the repro switch since the original clip in the glove box was fine.

It turns out that there is a slight difference in the clips. When I tried the original clip in the original switch housing, it fit perfectly.

Voila!

Thanks again - this is a great place to hang out!
