Default Deck Lid Hinge Support, help!

Anybody have photos of the deck lid support brackets where they sit on the body? Also the #4 nut in there? The rust bug ate mine up so bad that there is nothing left!

I am trying to figure out what I need to buy to fix 'em. Having trouble finding the parts, but CC lists the "deck lid hinge lower support repair piece" #542123 that looks like a start???

mikem350@bellsouth.net
Thanks in advance, Mike

I had the same thing happen to mine. There's a vendor out there that has the bottom part of the tower, can't remember who it is but I only get stuff from Paragon, LIC or Dr Rebuild. I had to un-weld and clean the top part of the tower from the rusted bottom then weld it to the new metal tower. The item on the left in the first pic is the old tower with the top removed (the one with the least rust, the other's legs were gone), in the center is the tower done and ready to paint. The rightmost item is the completed part protected for the eons with POR15.

Here's the captive nut assembly under the tower at the #4 body mount. The holes you see around it will accept the rivets for the #4 mount support bracket in the last picture.

P.S.....be careful removing the 4 upper bolts. They screw into a nut plate that is inside the water drain trough and are usually very rusty. If you break one, it is a real pain to repair.

Guys thanks, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for! CC sells the tower; I will have to repair both sides!!

Helping each other takes some of the PAIN out of restoration!

Any suggestion on an easyway to remove the 2 outer upper bolts?
Its a real pain getting tools on the bolt, is there a special tool maybe?

thx Ray

Hmmmm....Are we talking about the same bolts? The ones at the top have lots of access. 1/2" wrench or socket should work.

Yes those 1/2 " on the outside left and rightside of the car, but I got them out now .

Problem was I have the body on a quit a high doly (for cleaning underneath)
and I did not want to go inside the body (vert) to avoid extra weight at backside.
Used a ladder in the end and I got them out with socket.

Have to restore the lower hinge spring retainer and the springs, rest still in good condition.
thx for all the info in this tread
