OK - I'm rebuilding my washer pump and the rebuild kit has a bunch of these solid rivets. How do you 'set' them ? Is it a special tool and where can you get one ? I've tackled them with a ball peen hammer with terrible results.
A rivet set with a concave head would probably work the best along with a bucking bar with the matching diameter of your round head rivets. Success also depends upon the temper of the rivets being correct.
Try Big Flat Rivet Co for tools and rivets.

Frank, I am on the rivets also.
Have you done your DC trip yet? If so how did it go?
Earl
Been to DC & back and I don't miss the cold, grey skies, stressed out metro riders, crummy hotels, panhandlers, etc.. Love the paychecks though. I was working on Fed IT security issue so that's about all I can say.
I am actually looking at going to hollow alum rivets and using this tool. Its what bookbinders use to assemble 3-ring notebooks. Should be strong enough for a darn washer pump.
I would go to an airport with a maintance facility. They will have a rivit gun and sets along with bucking bars. The rivit sets are not the correct shape for these rivits but will probably work as they are concave...just on a different radius. If you have an extra rivit or two they can practice with pressure and you can look at the results. Most all aircraft rivits are aluminum.
