the shifter is very easy to remove (just a couple of bolts) from under the car; and rather than replacing it, i think you can still send it back to Hurst and have it rebuilt (that would include rechroming the stick)

I found the website and the rbuild service ,, i think $250 for OEM shifter
the couple of boltd is that to remove everything or just the stick ,,, can i just remove the stick? and replce it . or get it rechromed?
Your unit is the old style Hurst with a welded on lever.
You need to unbolt the whole shifter from the tailshaft, unclip the rods from their shift dogs and drop the whole thing down.
Later, Hurst changed their design to a shift lever that bolted onto the shifter assy.
Mike is correct.
There are REPLICA shifter handles available for your car that are made to bolt up to a Hurst shifter.
All that you SHOULD need is ONLY the shifter, no mounting hardware or shifter rods. Corvette Central carries the replica handle.

I sent the shifter in my '68 Z28 to Hurst for a rebuild, years ago.
That's a C-1 and as mentioned in an earlier post you have a welded unit for the shifter handle and you can't bolt a replacement on it anyway.
If you send it in for rebuild they might be able to replace the welded on unit with a bolt on unit in which case you could use a replacement handle on it.
Otherwise you could purchase a new unit with the bolt on type handle.
I had a stock looking shifter that was used with a HURST linkage I switched to the one you have there...I personally like them better (I kinda think its more "manly")..I bought one and had the stick rechromed by Pauls Chrome Shop...I had the unit sent out to be rebuilt by HURST..I think your shifter comes out as one unit...Looks like a 1960s model HURST shifter....Plus popular upgrade back in the day...
Just a question here. Wouldn't it be just as cheap to buy a new Hurst shifter with the bent handle for this car. Sending out for a rebuild and re-chroming the shaft are not going to be cheap, are they??? Would think that cost of rebuild, re-chrome and shipping would be close if not over the cost of new shifter.

Steve
it seems the cost to rebuild with chrome will be about $240 +shipping
a new compitition plus shifter is $460 + installation kit.
the rebuild service takes 4-5 weeks.
the only problem is (since thsi shift stick is welded in place) if i choose the rebuild i will not have the flexibility to put n stock looking stick in the future if i want to with out replacign the entire shifter assy then.
