Perhaps a more definitive way of asking this question is; "what is the distance from closest edge of the shifter opening to the closest edge of the cup opening,? I'm adding Power windows and I need to cut the hole for the cup. So I want to be sure I get it right.
Can't speak for a 63 but on my 65 the switch is mounted to the underside of the console with two screws. I believe it pretty well centers in the cup in the trans tunnel. My car is a Powerglide.

The '63 switch bolts from the top. But I would imagine that its in the same position. Anyone have the measurement I mentioned above?

Have you checked the assembly manual? It might list the relative measures you require.
My 65 manual is on loan to a friend, so I can't check my own to see if it has that measurement in there, but it's worth a look if you own a manual for your car.

Yep, checked the manual, but the measurements are relative to phantom lines....so are useless.
Are you putting in a stock system that you have made up from pieces stock/repro pieces? Or are you going with an aftermarket system...if so, which one?

Going with the stock system.
Anyone have the answer on the measurement above?
Looking at my '66 AIM ( which, by the way, shows the switch retaining screws going in from the top of the console....that was '63 only).....it appears that the cup is offset to the passenger side by 1/2".
Also, regarding the mounting of the cup, I believe I read that it should be sealed with silicon or dum-dum and to not use the metal reinforcement.
I purchased an original Power window console and I installed it. I then took a pencil and transferred the outline of the switch opening to the body. I removed the console and found that the switch is centered. However, this does not help address the installation of the cup. The AIM is good for determining the overall size of the cup opening, but because the absolute position of the opening is relative to phantom lines, its position is unknown. Based solely upon the AIM picture, it would seem that the cup is centered left to right. So this leaves only the front/back position in question. So I was asking if anyone could measure the distance from their shifter opening to the cup opening.
I installed factory power windows in my originally non-power window 63 coupe. I am using a later console but did the same basic thing you did.
I made the opening in the console for the switch, installed the console and traced the switch opening onto the fiberglass below. Then I centered the cup on that mark and cut the fiberglass and installed the cup using a marine epoxy. I did not offset the cup and the switch and wiring harness fit in just fine.
