I removed my cluster, took it apart and repaired/rebuilt gauges and repainted all. Replaced it today and wonder if I've lost what little sanity I had left. Question I have is: I notice the headlight and brake warning thin red lens is inset about 1/4 inch from touching the rear of the cluster. I know the turn signal green lenses are recessed some but are the headlight and brake lenses also? There's a gap of about 1/4 inch of nothing before you see the lens. You'd think after looking at the cluster for 10 years while driving/cleaning that I'd know if this is right. Please tell me I haven't installed the plastic lens piece wrong!!
Redid the cluster in my 65 late last year and I just checked mine. It did surprise me that the lenses do look like they are set pretty far back but that is right. I was careful in taking it apart and making sure the cardboard pieces and foam was all put back right. Have you hooked everything back up electrically and actually looked at them?

Don. Thank you, thank you, thank you for looking at your car for me. I didn't want to have to pull everything back out and tear the cluster apart again. I do have everything hooked up again but ran out of time today and didn't have time to turn anything on. I'm not sure if I have to have the steering column in so that harness is hooked up too before testing but I was going to try it without the column in tomorrow. I've heard so many horror stories about things not working after redoing the cluster that I'm half afraid to try it. Thanks again!! Dave
Dave,
Trust me I sweated out cranking up the engine after replacing the dash harness and re-doing the cluster instruments. Everthing worked out fine except for a leak at the back of my oil pressure gauge. Good job and good luck on the start up.

Oh forgot, everything should work without the steering column in except for the directional signals and horn.
Couldn't wait until tomorrow to check it. Everything worked except for the heater control/radio dial light. It was a new bulb and checked before I put it in but was dead. Replaced it and everything is now a go for the column install. Thanks for the help!! If we ever stop getting snow, I may just get it back on the road again! Dave
