We disassembled the 327 engine over the weekend.
The cam is stamped 113R and 1539 CWC.
Can anyone tell me where I can get the specifications for this cam?
Thanks,
Fred
CWC is a division of Textron. They are (likely) the only source of vintage small block cam blanks. Not sure if there is any clear numbering convention anymore; likely depends on who grinds the blanks.
If it a hydraulic lifter cam, measure the dimension from the high point of the lobe to the base circle. The standard, GM Goodwrench service replacement hydraulic cam for 327 & 350 c.i. base engines (GM#14088839) is nominally ...
Inlet - 1.5875"
Exhaust - 1.5750"

Reason: clarification
Then click on COMP.CAMS on line store [near the center of page]
then type in 12-672-4 [ Hydraulic cam]
or 12-673-4 [solid lifters] in the search box,
from there click on cam specs. Dont know if these are close to factory spec.
If I had my engine that tore apart I would be putting a roller cam in with as close to that grind as possible. Cant tell from the outside of the engine . The best part is you probably get about 40 more horses and you don't have to worry about the reduced anti- ware compounds in the motor oils. Just takes money. A friend of mine had a '67 big block tri- power engine with every thinkable upgrade[ inside the engine] possible [ he said it made about 600 H.P. ] and took his car to a NCRS convention and got top flight with it. He just recently past away and the car is up for sale by his wife, when the new owner floors it for the first time I hope his bladder is empty.
Just for clarification, Federal-Mogul did not go belly up, they are alive and well. Spent 5 years in Bankruptcy over Asbestos litigation that is now settled, emerged from BK in Dec 2007. Carl Ichan has purchased almost 75% of this 6 billion dollar company. He may change it but he has money. 17 billion estimated worth.
I checked out the CS 113R. Still a good part and still available.
Specs Solid Lifter Camshaft
Int Lift .395 Exh Lift .401 Duration @ .050 Lift 228 / 230 @.006 270 / 270 110 degrees lobe separation designed to make high RPM power, weak vacuum at idle, pretty thumpy idle. Pretty small cam by todays standards for lift. Old design but good for the small cubic inch engines. The 1996 Speed Pro Catalog listed this as the 283 with Fuel Injection camshaft GM part # 3736097, also said it matched the Duntov.
Hope this helps.
