A true leakdown test will tell you how much of that 80 psi (%) is getting by the pistons.
I do agree you might as well pull it out. Whatever is wrong will likely need to have it pulled anyway. Personally I would still check the other bank. It would help to know if they are all the same during diagnosis just in case it doesn't jump out at you.
Good luck and let us know what you find...and what machine shop says!
I have just come back from the machine shop. The owner said no problem. He asked that I deliver the engine intact with the carb, dist. etc. He is going to put the engine on his dyno first to diagnose the problem. The combination speed shop and machine shop builds street and strip engines. I still have confidence in the shop. The machine shop is immaculate and they have been in business a long time. I will keep everyone posted. Jerry
The machine shop tore the engine down and could not find anything wrong. When I got it back, the compression was up to 160lbs.+ in each cylinder. I did put it back in the car and it runs like it should. I think the shop installed the rings improperly the first time. I gave the shop all the parts I used carb., distr. etc. I did use the engine removal as an excuse for putting in a Tremec 600. It makes my 4:10s more enjoyable to drive. I'm going to work on the timing this weekend. With Cam 3, the engine is set at 5' initial and runs poorly with more advance. I am going to follow Lars' paper and set my total advance at 35' at 2600 with one spring off the distributor. High Tec of Holiday, FL, the shop that built the distributor is no longer in business, so I can't ask them the curve of the distributor. The car does not overheat or ping even with the A/C on in traffic or under a load. The timing has to be pretty close. I will keep you posted and thanks for asking. Jerry

Jerry,
Glad it worked out. Getting it back and stating they found nothing wrong, BUT all of a sudden magically you got 160+ lbs of compression would be cause for concern to me.. I'd much rather hear, ya, we screwed up, fixed it and all is better.. Something is wrong...
