Default Solid State Regulator Question.....VR715

Do you still use the capacitor that is mounted to the side of the original regulator?

I'm not sure if it's necessary or not, but I've always put it back on. There is a tab on the back for it to plug into.

$15.00 at NAPA. Can't beat the price. Works great.

If it has a chrome/stainless cover, you can use a scotch brite pad to etch it and paint it semi flat black and it will look real close to the original one.

I installed the VR715 yesterday. I've always had an Amp Meter that would show a discharge at all times. Meter hardly moved to show current direction. After installing the VR715 I still show the discharge when the car runs but see much more activity as current use is detected. Al W.

It came with a black cover that seems to be glued on. Will try to put original cover on it in a few days.

I believe that cover is riveted on. People here have drilled out the rivets, then used screws in those holes to mount the original Delco cover so it looks like the stock mechanical regulator.
