I remember someone had a picture of the back of the midyear cluster that showed what wires went where when wiring, and I seemed to have lost it ... anyone know what I am talking about or have it?

This is probably what you are looking for. These are for my 1965 with Powerglide trans. The harness is from Lectric Limited.
PL in the cluster pic = Panel Lamp (gray wire).

This is a handy tool for me. ONe word of caution, this is a 65 and up cluster. I know 63's and I think 64's had two less cluster lamps.

 

You should be able to read the schematics (wiring diagrams) for your corvette. Photos don't show the correct wiring connections, plus the wiring gauges are not mentioned. There is a guy on Ebay who sells almost every schematic ever made for all automobiles and trucks.

PS: He's right here. He's from Florida. I bought the 67 Corvette wiring diagrams from him. Was very happy with service and drawings.
