my father is restoring a 59. is there a needle and seat located under the accellerator squirters? we found a small brass peice that is rectangular and pointed on end. its smaller than the ones for the floats. just wondering if it was missed during previous rebuild?
it is an original carter

There are several types of Carters including WCFB and AFB...yours is probably a WCFB and this site has an exploded parts diagram and other important info: http://members.capital.net/com/studiog/CarterWCFB/
I have two manuals on WCFBs that I can email you if you provide an address...the attachment is a page from one of them.
The piece you are referring to (I think) is the accelerator pump check needle which goes in a dedicated cavity in the main body containing the float bowls and resides under a housing with a flat-head screw - zoom in on figure 7 in the attachment...

Got your PM - glad I could help. These old carbs can be tricky to rebuild but run like the dickens when done correctly. Plenty of help for these Carters via this forum....good luck
