Hi everyone. I tracked down a "clacking" noise in the front of my 65 to a loose Power steering pump pulley. Dropped off the belt and the noise went away. Pulley has about 1/16th to 1/8" play. Don't know yet whether the pulley is bad or not. I was thinking about replacing the pump and hoses but maybe I just need to yank it and correct the pulley problem. What's involved in getting the pulley off the shaft??? What pitfalls should I be aware of in pulling the pump and possibly changing the hoses? I've looked at the job in the 63 manual and it looks straightforward. I know that ya'll can tell me where things might go astray. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give.

Is the pulley loose on the shaft, or is the shaft moving in and out of the pump?
As far as removing the pulley, is it pressed on or held on by a nut?
If pressed on, you need a special puller, available at any good auto store, then you either could use a pulley installing tool, or a 3/8 fully threaded bolt, washer and nut to install. If you need more info, email me.
Thanks Plaidside. My PS pulley is attached with a nut. I'm going to see if I can get at it without removing the pump. I think it is the pulley that is loose and not the shaft but I need to look closer. I'll hit the nut with some blast and try to work it this weekend. Thanks for your help!
