Where can I buy some oil additive that is high in zinc for a new engine build? Local Chevy dealer does not carry it.
Thanks
Here is one source http://www.zddplus.com/ there are various racing and diesel oils that purportedly have enough zinc for the old motors.
Please do a forum search and you will find encyclopedias of information about this topic. I hope all those debates do not get started again in this thread.
Not to debate, but I do put some in (4oz per 6 qt) during a regular oil change too.
If needed I can post the GM EOS number when I get home tonight. As mentioned it changed to a new number but haven't checked it's availability recently.
I got mine at Farm and Fleet here local in town.I got it on the recommendation of a old drag racer when I just put the aluminum heads on the green car,and new solid lifter cam combo. It was 22 bucks for 2 gallons. My break in went fine.
I had no luck at O'Reilys,or Advanced, and didn't try Autozone, but any kind of Rural King,Farm, and Fleet,or some deisel truck place can get you in the right direction.
Competition Cams has a break in lube that should be available at your Friendly Local Auto Parts Store.
On a side note, I have always wondered why the camshaft manufacturers haven't been coming forward with information about the lack of ZDDP in modern oils, since they are probably the first to get blaimed when a lobe gets wiped out. So, lo and behold, Comp Cams now has an article on their website, the 'Flat Tappet Tech Bulletin'.
