Does anyone have photo's of a flat black mid year coupe? My car was born black & now has a poor white paint job. I'm looking at a temporary fix till I have the cash to do a frame off on my 67 coupe, I've seen c-6's that looked tough flat.
I would leave the crappy white paint job on there before I would paint it FLAT black. It won't be a tempory fix...it will look like you are in the middle of a project. On second hand you will probably get so much crap for it that it will make you get it painted faster. To each their own but if you want a Rat Rod...go get a rusty old car and paint it flat black and throw some white walls on it.
I believe you would want a semi-gloss. But even with that, keeping it clean with a surface like that will be tough. Scrubbing bugs may result in a more glossy spot. Next, with white under it, be prepared to do a lot of touching up as it chips. I had a radial drag car with semi-gloss black paint done over dark blue, even it was something of a pain. Paint the car the way you want it and enjoy.
The 'flat' colors are showing up on a lot of motorcycles now too.
It just doesn't appeal to me personally. I grew up with enough other poor kids that had primer all over their cars (mine too) to consider that dead paint look to be 'double fugly' nowadays...

I HAD A 57 Bel air around 1969 painted it outside primer gray.I lived in a housing project did not have to much money to finish it.Sold it years latter, so not to fancy about flat paint
That wrap was what turned me on, I'm thinking putting a clearcoat with flat in it so it will be washable and have a little shine. I'm thinking the American Racing wheels, sidepipes & bumpers to set the paint off.
I attended the LA Auto Show and one of the mfgs. had a car painted in that scheme. I thought it looked great, for a specialty car. I think the car would look interesting, and maybe others including me, would like it. I'm not sure, if you were to sell it, what that would mean financialy.
This probably isn't what you had in mind, but Mad MMax is definately Flat Black......
Interesting. I would not do this to my car, but it sure is a new and unique way to X%%*%(%@-Up a Corvette. That being said, this would be awesome to use in the new Transformers movie.
I bought my Corvette six or seven years ago. It was in dark gray primer when I bought it. I had always intended to paint it but never got around to it; I kept doing performance modifications instead. I think I am finally ready for paint, but now every one who has watched the car change over the years insists I keep it in primer! (I also never worry about paint chips.) Here’s a photo of the car in an autocross, right after I sawzalled the fenders out for serious race rubber. It has since been flared.
My buddys car. I love it. The paint on mine wasn't so nice I would do the same. A lot less inane conversation everytime I'm at the gas pumps etc. I keep offering to trade him bodies
