Default heat riser

New exhaust will be going onto the frame-up soon and I'm wondering whether the heat riser is necessary for a car which won't see much cold weather operation. In addition, if you leave it out, does the shorter length pose any "fit" problems for that side of the exhaust? Thanks.(427/2.5")

I removed the butterfly plate from my heat riser, so it looks complete from the outside with centershaft and counter weight.

All of the usual vendors sell a spacer that takes the place of the heat riser valve, it costs around $25. This item was used on 62-65 FI Vettes.

that's what I used

if you don't want the heat riser operation you can replace it with the spacer unit, or gut the heat riser unit you have by removing the butterfly valve, or even just simply wiring it open. I chose to go with the spacer unit so I could retain the original heat riser valve in case I ever wanted to put it back on in the future (so I didn't want to gut it) and I didn't like the idea of the appearance of wiring it open.
