so, ive got a 54 that im stuffing a 350 into, with hookers, and the hookers come about 1" from the battery. does anyone know how close is to close when it comes to heat and batteries. did chevy move the location of the battery for later C1's that had a v8? if they did, can someone tell me where it was moved to?
Battery pocket located just left of the spare tire wheel well
Gel type battery and mounting box from Summit Racing
Battery terminals through bulk head, cables and rings from Detroit Speed and Engineering. They will sell you what ever length battery cables you need.

Please post pics of your progress. Should be very cool when done.

pics coming soon. all are on the wifes phone for now.. really wasnt looking forward to moving the battery to the back... but figured it would happen considering how close the headers are.. i think the pass side header is actually currently in contact with the battery box.. wonderful. on a plus side, i got the tranny bolt in place. only took a neighbor and me wife to push the motor back.. why you ask?? cause my headers are to friggin long!! frames gonna have to be cut for exhaust to go in.. me thinks i bought some stuff a bit prematurely.. but i love em!!
I would think that if you had a inch of clearance and the battery is in a battery box, you could use header wrap on the offending pipe and place some heat reflecting insulaltion in the box between the battery and inside wall of the box. I would also use a gel battery instead of a acid batt.
Good luck
Russ
I have seen batteries catch fire during recharge w/a battery charger.
The gas emmitted by lead acid batteries is flamable. Most of the time
you are fine/safe.. but if you got a bad battery or into a overcharging situation and smelled the "rotten egg" sulfur smell- which occurs when
gas is being emmitted you've got flamable gas around... at that point
an ignition source with a sufficiently thick gas clould equals fire.
I think very probably during driving when you're going to have air
circulation because of the movement of the car you'd be fine.
An inch away might be close enough to do some melting...
Most of the batteries back in the 50's/60's didn't have alot of
cold cranking amps.. 350 was the norm... a Honda group 54 battery
will have 450 to 600 cca's and has a very narrow profile.. about 1/2 as wide as most batteries. I have used Group 54's with V-8's and they
perform just fine... you won't have any issues in performance or longevity. You could likely pick up an extra 5 to 7 inches
of clearance with a Group 54... just trying to give other options here
as the trunk placement has been covered.
