Anyone use rivets to install the A frame dust shields on a midyear? I think it would be easier than using staples. I have installed many sets of dust shields, but it's never been a quick or easy task.

just use an appropriate gauge wire. poke through from the back to make the hole in the rubber then put it in from the front for the factory look and snip to fit, fold over inside the fender well.
i tried the stainless staples that the forum vendors sell and they are hell to work with
there is almost zero stress on those fasteners......no need for impossible to work with wire.

Instead of rivets yiou may like this better, much easier to me and looks cleaner too. Get some 5200 marine grade glue. Cut the old flaps off to the fender wells (leave the parts where the staples are in) place the new ones over top of the old ones (reason for not removing the old ones completely, pattern) Duct tape them in place to hold and wait 3 days at least as full curing time on 5200 is 7 days. It's a waterproof sealant that works below the water line on boats. In 15mins you'll have new flaps and no staples, rivets anything showing and can remove them and use the old patern if someone wants the original look. Clean permanent fix. Worked for me PERFECT and I'll gaurantee you they won't come off unless you want them to.

I used small phillips head stainless sheet metal screws in the staple holes - with stainless fender washer on the screws. The screws fit the existing holes and make relacement of the shields easy. I replaced the original style dust shield twice, then made my own out of sheet rubber when the second set cracked apart.
I make my own staples from 16-ga. galvanized wire (blister-pack item at the hardware store); very easy to work with. The stainless staples the vendors have are a PITA to work with, and aren't correct (if that matters to you).
