[pics]Is the original starter on the 60?
Over the past few weeks, we've been cleaning out the cob webs on the second 60 we got a few months back, and getting her ready to see some road action. Which is great, since she hasn't since much of the road over the past 10 years.
One of the issues that keeps coming up is after it runs and warms up for about 10-15 minutes, and then you shut it down, the starter drags really slow when you go to try and restart her. I thought we'd pull the starter out and have her tested, and if there is an issue with it, have someone rebuild the original.
So is this the original starter, or atleast correct, for this 1960?
The casting number on the case of the starter is 1107664, which is right for 58-60 I believe.
Then the date stamp below it is: 8 F 5
Which I believe is: 1958 June 5
So, is a starter from June 1958 too early for our car?
Here's a pic of the numbers.
I was trying to figue out the number on the starter solenoid too, it is 1119910. I believe the juding guide says that it should be 1119919.
So the solenoid is probably not correct for this starter?
Here' s a pic of the solenoid number, but it doesn't show up really good.
In the judging guide, I didn't see any reference to this number on the snout. It is 840.
So what do you think? Original to the car? Too early for the car?
Thanks for checking it out.

Based on the date it is too early for the car. The part number of 1107664 is okay because they used that number for '57 through '60. Is the Delco tag still on it with the part number and date?

Starters from at least 57 on had no Delco tag on it. All the info was stamped in the case, as is this one. This is too early for your car (as you know the NCRS has a 6-month rule for components to allow for anomalies-generally 4 to 6 weeks is the lead time on starters, generators, etc.)--the 7664 starter was used on many passenger cars as well, so it is is either a rebuilt over the counter replacement, or was grabbed off a 58 Corvette or Chevrolet. The 9910 solenoid was used in 61 and 62, again on both Vettes and passsenger cars, so it is not rare, but at the same time does have some value to it, especially to a 61-62 guy.

Thanks guys for the feedback. This is what I was thinking too, and it was great to get it all confirmed.
