Anyone know a good compound to buff lacquer paint? I have nine paint with very small scratches mainly on the front fenders from working on the car. I have an electric buffer from Macguires. The paint is nice but I would like to remove the minor swirl marks and small scratches. If 2000 wet or dry is required what is the procedure?

Hi Larry, I've got two cars with niice, deep Lacquer paint; a 55 Speedster and a 70 Chevelle. I've had great luck with 3M-Liquid rubbing compound for power buffing. I'ts very mild and easy to use. Make sure your buffer is random orbit, pour a small dollop on the pad (about the size of a quarter) put the buffer on the paint before you turn buffer on. Buff about a 1 foot sq. until most all the liquid is pasted onto the paint
then use a micro fibre cloth to remove buffing residue. You'll be pleased.
There are other good, mild, liquid rubbing compounds but this is the one I've had luck with.
Go to your local paint jobber and ask for the 3m Perfect It sanding and buffing products. This stuff is very good but a little costly. To learn more about the product go to the web site: http://shows.implex.tv/3MTV/Root/AAD...=1239321310737 Good luck, Wes
Dupont 606S is probably one of the best lacquer polishing compounds ever - just not sure if it's still available. I've been hoarding a can in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for years.
Works amazing on acrylic lacquer, without removing excess material.
If you do decide you want to sand, use Meguiar's 2500 grit and then the Perfect It. Stay away from edges and peaks with the buffer/polisher machine. Do those by hand.
