I have a new 65 and am a novice at this to say the least. When you look at the shift box you can see the ground below because the rubber part around the shifter has torn away. I think this is called the shift boot but am not 100% sure. Is that correct and how hard is it to replace?
Also I would like to buy a repair/service manual for a 65. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should buy?
Once the console plate is off you'll see that the boot is held to the tunnel with a rectangular metal retainer screwed to the floor. If the screw heads are rusted you may have some trouble getting them out but that just comes with the territory on these old cars!!Dave

I would suggest the Corvette Shop Manual. You would need to get the 1963 shop manual and the 1965 Supplement. You could also consider the Assembly Instruction Manual. All of these are available through the various Corvette suppliers such as Corvette Central, etc.
Depending on what you are looking to do, you may also consder the 1965 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide that can be purchased through NCRS. NCRS would probably have the manuals noted above also.
