The C2's have a reputation to get light front at higher speeds, i know there are some front spoilers out there that can help with this issue. Does anybody have one on, and show a picture of it, or know the place where they can be order or a website that shows one installed in a car. I haven't seen many with spoiler since the original body is just absolutetly beautifull :smash: buy i will like to se some with a spoiler to judge how they look. I'll like to have confidence in my c2 vette at 3digit speeds so i am looking at the difference options and a front spoiler looks like the most adecuate one. Can you guys help me wtih your opinions and your knowledge.
The front does lift, but it doesn't make the car difficult to drive. The front end doesn't really start lifting until about 120 mph. If your suspension is in good shape, the car is stable in a straight line until at least 140 mph. Unless you're braking hard into a corner from triple digit speed, aerodynamics really isn't an issue. The hard part of driving a midyear fast is the car weaving under heavy braking. Both drum and disks seem to do this. I'd concentrate on getting the brakes into good shape. I've thought about a spoiler, but without any engineering experience it would be a lot of trial and error.
I have an old one on the front of my 66 (Check the Garage Photos link of the hompage, below). Any of the other shots show you what it looks like.
It looks to be twice as tall as the Eckler. It came from a supplier in MN years ago, but there is one like it on Tom and Tammy Hackmann's 72 Maverick (featured in the Jan 2002 Hot Rod on pg36). They may be able to give you a current supplier. They are in San Bernardino CA.
This is a theory I have-
Like an aircraft wing, the front end is shaped much the same way on the C2's.
I wonder if there is a signifigant low pressure drop on the top surface ( hood, and fenders) and that is what causes this lifting. If this were the case, again much like an aircraft wing, any dynamic drag on the leading edge destroys lift. In aircraft there are spoilers, in a C2, I wonder if you raise the headlights, if this would cause the same effect (reduce the lift). I do not think the parasite drag of having the headlights up will greatly effect your top end speed.
Food for thought.
Re: Front Spoiler vs Light Front C2 (ghostrider20)
If you check the photos of old racing C2's, many of them had a vertical plate at the leading edge of the hood to kill off the upper surface suction (lift).
