If you are making the investment in a high-dollar canvas top; farm the job out...one little wrong cut or adjustment and your're screwed.. The price you got is fair...I got quoted about $700 for a nice Stayfast top done by a top restorer nearby.
Jack, you'll love the look of the canvas top. I've had mine for about 3 years now, and it looks as good as the day it was installed.
I would suggest a pillow that you can make yourself, or buy one for the plastic rear window, it will keep it from getting marred when you fold the top down. You place it in the crease to keep it from rubbing. I never lower the top unless the window has been dusted or cleaned. Any little bit of dirt can cause a scratch.
When you spend the kind of money it takes to make it look good, You don't want to spoil it.

My friend, a life-long ace body man and the handiest guy I know, bought a top and the installation video from Al Knoch. He then proceeded to install the new top on his '64.
Don't know how familiar you are with Corvettes and Pensacola, but there are a couple of guys there that have probably forgotten more about mid-years than many of us learn in a lifetime. They're always willing to help and best of all will know who the best installers in the area are.

I 2nd that. You can buy a pillow for around $20 from Volunteer and they are worth every penny. Stayfast by Miami Corp was my choice for tops. I hate the old rubber look but I never drive the car with top up.
I've used a plain white beach towel in place of a pillow in all my convertibles and the back windows look fine years later. Cheap and thinner than a pillow allowing the deck lid to still close easily. Get a WHITE towel and nothing else for colors to run or transfer to your soft top.
