I learned to build, drive and race my Vettes, while living in East Rockaway, back then. I, too, was enthuised by all the cars at Motion. I had work done there and at S/K Speed. Had some carb's rebuilt at K&K Carbureters ( I think ) in Valley Stream. So many good times, some bad, and plenty of learning the hard way. This was a good post to find!
I drive an 07' C6 now, but, the memories never go away.
Thanks for the pictures. It was great to see the car again and the poignant memories it brought back. Did you grow up in the area? I lived in a number of different houses in Astoria from down by the Astoria Manor to up as far as by the Rikers Island bridge and the Garden Bay Manor apartments.

I have those photos from last year and it slipped my mind that I should have posted them in the C2 forum section. Better late than never.
I grew up in Valley Stream, N.Y. Three Towns away from Motion Performance. Did my share of Street Racing, Marine Corps and finally Married with Kids. It was so Cool to Pass Motion and see cars like Ko-Motion outside if you were a "Car Guy". Wetson's in Valley Stream and West Hempstead were two great Cruise Night spots. (We didn't call them that in those days.) Thursday and Sunday on Conduit Blvd.. We started at the top of a Hill and Raced down towards and under a RR Overpass. By this point you were doing 80-100MPH. NYC Police had Six Cylinder cars so they never caught us. Little did I know that one day I'd be the Dreaded "Man in Blue"! LOL We older Gentlemen had a Great Time to be a Kid. (Other than Nam). Al W.
I remember those days at Conduit Blvd. To young to own a car but I had the bug back then.
My Aunt lived in Merrick LI and I would visit her on the weekends. Would go by Baldwin Chev. AND Motion and Ko-Motion would be parked outside. What a car!
At that time I drag raced a Sunbeam Tiger which I purchased new at Long Island City Imports....
Later in 68 I used to have S&K do all my machine work on my 68 Olds 442. I often wonder if any of those guys are still around....Anyone familiar with the Motion-Markowitz Oldsmobile 442 W-30 cars??
Brian is still at S&K...I've talked to him off and on over the years getting parts for Doug Nash 5 speeds. He's got lots of great street racing stories when they used to scarf up last year's Hemi Pro Stockers for street use!
I used to go to the S&K Speed Shop on Coney Island Ave. in Brooklyn. In fact, I still have my Ansen Sprint wheels on my 68 coupe from S&K. I read somewhere that Joel Rosen of Motion lives in Sarasota, FL. I also remember buying a new LS6 engine from Langley Chevrolet in VA for $1800 and putting it in a 66 GTO. S&K sold the install kit for some really cheap price. The car was a real sleeper. It was like trying to drive a nervous breakdown. Oh yeah, it got like 5 to 6 mpg of Sunoco 260 with the 4:88 rear. Open headers would wake the dead. Way too much fun. Jerry
