Sick! Thanks for taking those photos and posting. I've been following that story for a long time and haven't come across any new photos of the car in quite awhile
Here is the link off Doc Rebuild's page. I seem to remember a larger/higher res version. My apologies to the good Dr. if he did not want this link posted...I will gladly delete if there is a problem.
My car will probably not be ready for BG. I will try to find you on the grounds and say hello.
Before the magazine article hit. There was a 1/18 diecast released of the car. My local hobby store finally put them on the discount table at $20.00 each to get rid of them. I thought I would grab one later. Then the magazine hit the stands and the diecast zoomed to over $100.00 each. By the time I got back to the stores, they had all been gobbled up by the flippers.
I did pick up the 1/64 scale JL version a few weeks ago for $5.00. Notice its a 1965 model LOL and other mistakes.
Are you asking Dan about race history? The young owner was killed in Vietnam but a couple people from Baldwin Chevrolet ran the car mostly in AHRA in his memory. They even broke or set some AHRA records. After campaigning the car it was parked and was owned by the original owners sister who after many years finally decided to sell the car to a collector who had located the car. Believe the collector was in contact for a couple years before she decided to sell. His promise was to leave the car the way it was. Anyone, please correct me if I messed up somewhere
Reason I liked the story is I clearly remember the car back when.

Same story in the book "Corvette, A Fifty Year History" that I have..the driver died very early in his Vietnam tour by a mortar round.

Nice for a change to see a bad start have a good ending.
Most of us here are old enough to remember the Baldwin Motion cars as well as have friends that did not come back.

For many years the car was kept at an Esso station at the corner of Ditmars Blvd. and 46 St. in Astoria. It was kept indoors over night and parked under the sign during the day. I probably drove by the car 25 times a day in my travels. Charlies parents owned the candy store we would go to at lunch break. The candy store was on Ditmars Blvd. between 45th St and 46th St. He was a year either side of me but we hung with different "gangs" so I didn't know him on a personnel basis. Even back then the car was well known but I never thought I would be reminiscing about it 45 years later on a computer forum connected to people world wide.
Thanks for the pictures. It was great to see the car again and the poignant memories it brought back. Did you grow up in the area? I lived in a number of different houses in Astoria from down by the Astoria Manor to up as far as by the Rikers Island bridge and the Garden Bay Manor apartments.

Reason: grammar
I grew up in Valley Stream, N.Y. Three Towns away from Motion Performance. Did my share of Street Racing, Marine Corps and finally Married with Kids. It was so Cool to Pass Motion and see cars like Ko-Motion outside if you were a "Car Guy". Wetson's in Valley Stream and West Hempstead were two great Cruise Night spots. (We didn't call them that in those days.) Thursday and Sunday on Conduit Blvd.. We started at the top of a Hill and Raced down towards and under a RR Overpass. By this point you were doing 80-100MPH. NYC Police had Six Cylinder cars so they never caught us. Little did I know that one day I'd be the Dreaded "Man in Blue"! LOL We older Gentlemen had a Great Time to be a Kid. (Other than Nam). Al W.
Way too many memories. Joel Rosen of Motion graduated from the same high school in Brooklyn that I did. He graduated about 6 or 7 years before I did. His reputation was already established by the car guys in school. I can still hear the commerical from WABC radio for National Speedway. Thanks for the memory. Jerry
