Default Firewall padding / insulation question

Hello Everyone,

I am getting ready to replace the firewall sound deadener / insulation in my 65 vert. Curious if anyone has any tips on doing this or pictures before and after? I was interested in what exactly has to be removed to reinstall these pieces fo insulation. I already have my Gauge Cluster, Glove Box, and Heater unit removed from the car. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Are you replacing all of it-upper and lower?
You will need to make a tool for installing the lower insulation rubber retainers. They are a bit of a PITA to work with. Make sure you put some sort of lube on them, that will not eat rubber, and then use a screwdriver with the tip cut off to push them into place.

You might need to remove the radio, speaker, and defrost duct work, but i dont recall 100 percent

I'm going to make one of bigearl56's homemade tools to do this job on my 60. I used the cutoff screwdriver (actually the tool from LIC) and was still a tough job poking those through the firewall. I like the idea that this tool looks like it both stretches the fastener and pushes it at the same time (JohnZ's post in the thread indicates such). Hope it works as describe.
