Default Build date

At one point I was told that my Vet was built April 13/65. I found info at the Year One web site that indicated that H2 would be April 2nd.
Below the glove box door there are two plates, the one on the left (looking toward the dash) indicates I 13, the one on the right with the serial # has a date of 5 11 65 which appears to have been tapped into the plate to the left and below the serial #. I was told that this marking was put there by the dealer and indicates the date that the car was sold. This is an A.O.Smith bodied car.
My problem is, if H is April and I is May then the car was sold before it was built. What am I missing????

What you are missing is that for the 65 model year, "H" is March and "I" is April.

by the way, the build date code on the trim tag refers to when the body was built, not when the car was fully built and "born" - which most equate with when the car rolled off the assembly line - that latter date is calculated using the car's production number from the VIN.

Mac,

That date which is stamped on your VIN tag is the "Delivery Date" and is stamped there by the dealer when the Vette is delivered to the purchaser. Realistically, it could be any date a that is a few days after the build date.

Default Vin

Mac, what is your VIN? I also have a 65 which has a body build date of H02. My VIN is 11313. I am just curious to see how close they are since mine is a ST. Louis body. Thanks

who cares....
i think it is BARY K,s websight that has the birthday calculator. according to the stats my car left the assembly line on nov 9, 1963, . it is a 64 but has many (only 63 parts) my car was the 97th built of 100 that day. but then again "who cares" it's just another cool old vette that has survived, how many have been crashed or BURNED!!!!! my car has definately been crashed, but never burned. i am now restoring this 55 year old car, one of the best cars ever built, only DOKK's 65 is better than mine. we have built his car into a 500HP, 383 stroker. it is insainly fast-it goes through the 4 gears on the muncie in 4 seconds. DOKK.... now i get to

PS DOKK- my limey taxy (as you call it) is insanely faster than your 500 HP vette...
