1964 Corvette Yenko dealer option back seat
On the left under my name for my Profile, click on "My Corvette Photos" to see some recent images of my '64 Corvette Coupe Yenko dealer option back seat.
The car is restored, but the Yenko back seat is completely original.
This seat came with the car when I bought it in the '60s.
Half way down this page is the original ad from 1963:

People used their Corvettes in the "Old Days".

Your average person CAN'T fit back there!
Notice in the picture, the top of the seat-back meets the glass rear window... that's where your upper torso should be, followed (usually) by your shoulders and then your head...
My sister and I rode in the back of my Dad's '67 when we were little (no seat, just sitting on the carpet in the storage area), but we were only about 7 and 10 years old, respectively.

You could not pay me to get back there on purpose for anything other than maintenance. It would be fun for the kids though. Pilot Dan

I think JohnZ posted a picture of one of these rear storage bench seats a few weeks ago, I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: Found it, the Thread is called "Third seat in C2", see post #4 for JohnZ's picture:

It is neat that you have one Tom, it would have been welcome addition to my Dad's car when I was kid... it would still have been cramped back there, but at least there would have been something to lean back against

I just realized JohnZ posted two different links. One to the color photograph:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/atta...-backseat2.jpg
And the other to a Yenko Chevrolet advertisement with pricing and other details:

I am in contact with a guy from Pittsburgh that claims that he knows the person that made these seats for Yenko.
He said the guy is in Bridgeville, Pa and still works.
He is trying to get me contact information.
I am originally from a town 40 miles east of Pittsburgh and bought my car 40+ years ago with the seat.

Those were special times for Baldwin Chevrolet and Motion performance. The Feds put a end to all of that excitment by slapping Joel Rosen (Owner of Motion ) with stiff fines if he continued to build those` cars (I think the fine was $30,000 a lot of cash in the early 1970s plus some jail time) if he was caught breaking the smog laws. Baldwin Chevrolet closed it doors and is now a CVS Drug store and Motion and Joel started to build street legal Mustangs till Joel could not survive any longer and sold it and its now a place called Speed World were ricers go to be tricked out.

In the 60's, the Yenko's took their two small daughters to the local SCCA events and Corvette club events. Don'd parents also would attend, as the SCCA and Corvette club days seemed to be family events in the 60's.
This may have given Don the idea to make/sell the rear seat.
Ed Lowther, Jr ( in the picture as the 3rd kid) may be the son of Ed Lowther.
Ed was a racing buddy of Don's and drove some of the Yenko Corvette team cars. He later drove a Cobra and was quite a successful race car driver. Ed spoke at some of the Corvette historic events before he passed.
I have some of his old racing stuff and some Yenko Corvette team stuff he had.

I remember seeing back seats in Southern California C2 coupes in the mid-'60s. The upholstery pattern was a little different, probably a local manufacturer rather than Yenko.
One cool thing was the covered storage area created for stuff like cameras BEHIND the seat, where thieves couldn't see. The under-floor jack and tool pockets were small and un-padded for a lot of items you'd want to conceal.

I have talked to the person (now 70 years old) that did the Yenko Corvette back seat.
He also did many custom seats for the Yenko Stingers.
I am going to send him some pictures and literature.

Yenko had a catolog where he sold racing parts including two style racing fiberglass bucket seats. One for drag racing and one for road racing.
They came with a padded seat cover. I have a drag racing seat and still has the lable on it of the fiberglass co in PA. that is the same company name we have reciepts from Yenko Chevy.
Yenko used local companys to make some of his parts.
