Strut Rod Alignment
By May 2009, they were shot. The rubber was pushed out on both ends.
I replaced them with Poly Bushed Adjustable strut rods in July 09.
They were so stiff, that I could not keep the lock nuts tight. One end of each rod would keep loosening up due to the twisting motion caused by the up/down movement of the trailing arms. The ends were starting to bend at the bushings due to the rear geometry design. The pass side rod finally galled the adjustment threads due to the movement.
The 2 problems above were the reason I started this post to begin with.
I then tried Heim-Jointed adjustable rods suggested by Garrett (63Corvette). What a difference! The car rides incredibly smoother. The spring and shocks are able to do their jobs much better without the strut rods being in constant tension. Handling is much more precise. The rear of the car feels more stable.
Thanks to all the answers to my original questions and advice. The car is much more fun to drive now.
