I think Peter Egan in Road and Track said it well; whether you like the new Camaro's styling depends on what kind of toys you played with when you were growing up. If you played with Transformers, you're likely to love it. I didn't, and I don't.
The same will probably be true with the C7. Personally, I'm worried they're gonna blow it.
Not only do I not like the Camaro, I think they already blew it with the C6. C1's,C2's,most C3's & C5's are beautiful. C4's, C6's and that picture of the C7 split window =
Guess I'm the odd man out...I like the C7 except for the ridiculous rear flares....they need to be toned down or redesigned. Looks like cars did when the era of the tail fins was finally coming to an end.
I even like the new Camaro and no, I didn't play with transformers....
From the article:
This was hinted at by the Corvette Stingray concept that was used in the second Transformers movie. "That car is not the next Corvette," says Welburn, "But the split-window is something that I expect for the next Corvette."
Welburn added, "With the back-up cameras and blind-spot detection systems that we have these days, the visibility issue is much less of a problem."
I trust that the final version will be a little less extreme. If it works out, I may sell the '64 and the '99 and buy my first new car. That's what the Fiancee thinks I should do...
It will be interesting how big they make the doors. If you look at the photos closely you see a design line leading up to the rear glass. Could the doors be that big? Al W.
I have to disagree. The very first thing I noticed when I bought my split window was "where's all the awful visability I heard so much about?" Sure, its not great, but Ive driven at least a couple cars that were much worse. It just didn't bother me one bit, and I drove that car a lot.
Come on - no old guys here? How about "street rodders"? Most of the 30s and 40s "fat fendered" cars had much worse rear view vision. What about the mid-engined exotics? With todays technology (wether we like it or not) that rear window will not be an issue.
I expected to buy one in the 2nd year of the C7 generation, but not so sure if it really looks like this. I wasn't too thrilled with the C5 when it first came out, but it grew on me...not so sure about the split window and bat wings in the rear.
I have had enough of people flaming the 63 Split Window. I am a proud owner of a beautiful 63 Split Window Coupe. It took me over 40 years of hard living to be able to purchase my dream car. For 40 years all I heard from Corvette and Car people was how the 63 was the best looking Corvette ever built and either how they wish they could own one or if they owned one how they regretted the sold it. For 40 years I have wanted one more then anthing in the world. The 63 COUPE is an AMERICAN ICON. I have lived all over the world and the most impressive thing I remember about the 63 was oversees in the Belgian Congo, a run down shack garage in the far east section, the person who owned it had four photos of a 63 Coupe on this old stained mud wall, and when I aske him about the 63 photos he said this, "As a Car mechanic its only a Dream, the same dream of going to America to live, this car is America." ITS THE SPLIT WINDOW that made 63 and all I hear on these posts are, well its hard to see out of, or its will not pass saftey or its to old looking...BULL CRAP. I was at the museum a few weeks ago when they took this new concept car outside and it was BEAUTIFUL and the Split Window MADE THIS CAR... I am praying they make it as I will be the first in like this time to purchase one, and not have to wait 40 years to have the honor to restore and make one new again. I think this will be the CAR of the future...sorry for all the pestimistic folks out there, but hey if they make it great,,,, but unless you owned one or have one, please respect it for what it is an American ICON....
Yes, I can. Its only another first year Vette with lots of problems

.......Looking good because of a window does not make it any better than the rest, and especially they are not a icon....oh, its in the 1963 registry too, for whatever thats worth.....
The new Camaro is fine. As long as you are under 5'10 There are many qualities Chevy sacrificed for appearance. Ignoring function. This might have been fine in the early 60s. But American men are taller and fatter than they used to be.
Oh and the rear end of the Camaro is a real pig. I hope they fix that in the next few years.
But then again. The rear of the Vette has sucked since 84 models "to be honest, since 73" came out and just got progressivly worse. The Z06 and ZR-1 Are making it better though. In my unhumble opinion.

The Corvette is an ICON. RESPECTFULLY variations are merely inconettes. There is a reason GM stopped the split window after the first year. To each his own. I am a convertible fan.Living in the south. I wouldn't consider any mid year coupe. Especially a "63 No insulation and very poor ventilation. Hope it's got A/C.
Just me but I will NEVER purchase a newer Corvette ever. They just got really ugly after the C3's. And the beat goes on! I purchased a C5 and had to do body mods to get that right. Sorry do not want to offend anyone but the C7 if it comes out close to that, it will be Butt Ugly! On well still can purchase the new Cube ().
Please enlighten me as to what he did to the Camaro. I've seen a few up close and they seem real nice. I don't follow these designers so I wouldn't recognize any of their names, so what I end up learning is from here. Thanks.
I like the new Camaro...Hell Im glad to see it back...I never liked the 2000-2002. I think the new one looks pretty sharp. The new Corvette doesnt look bad..GM gonna have to try some new things...Give the new Corvette a "chance" have a open mind...We are in a new era of automobiles...
I'm surprised in our litigious society that Chevy can get away with creating an "obstructed view" back window, regardless of backup cameras and the like.
Lambo Countach's are legal and you cannot see out of their rear window, such as it is.
The more they make it look like a split window 63 the better it will sell.
The rear is horrible! Round it down and offer a removable hard top with a split window and you get everything for everybody.
