Default Non Functioning Odometer

The odometer in my 66 coupe is not working. I am planning to pull the cluster to replace the bulbs and would like to repair the odo at the same time. Any suggestions; tips; etc?

These articles should get you through the cluster R & R.

As for the odometer, I'd send the speedo to one of the repair places you can find by a "search" in this Forum. I used Harrison Speedometer in Jupiter, FL. and was pleased with Bill's work. Dave

Thanks for the links. I want to repair the odometer, as opposed to having the speedo restored. All of the gages are fully functioning originals and have a very nice patina on them.

Anyone done this themselves?

Len, I purchased the repair kit from LIC to repair the ODO. Easy fix, but the speedo has a magnet that needs to set after repairing the odo. The two shops local in chicagoland have closed. I have an address for a place in Milwaukee area but have not yet spoke to them. I know of a place in Phoenix and had a price quote of +/-$50. I will get you the WI info and if this is no help I can take it to AZ when I head out to auction week. T

Check out this thread, some really great detailed photos of the speedo mechanism near the bottom of the thread.

Problem will probably be stripped worm gear right off the speedo head. Head can be dissasembled, but main worm gear has magnet staked at one end and input socket staked at the other end. Difficult to deal with if you dont have the tools. I sent mine off to the profesionals.

I sent mine to D&M through local Corvette shop (Dynamic Corvettes) and got a one week turn around. I've only had a chance to bench test so far and it works great. A little under $200 plus shipping.
